Diet

Anti-Inflammatory Diet Food Pyramid...courtesy of Dr. Weil
So I giggle this time of year...every year...as so many people out there decide that they are going to lose weight and get healthy. I read somewhere one time that something like 89% of those who made a new year's resolution to lose weight will quit their new found diet and exercise program before the end of February. I have no idea if this statistic is valid or not, but it still makes me giggle. I have to admit that I too have been one of those poor schmucks that has the great intentions of losing weight for the new year and consequently failed miserably. Oh well, I guess it is a rite of passage that we fat people must take every year. I guess you could call it our annual pilgrimage to Mecca. What it should be called is our "gluttonage" of Krispy Cremes! LOL

Anyways, I have decided to go on an anti-inflammatory diet. I could lie to you and say that it has nothing to do with weight, but I won't. However, it really does have more to do with me not being in pain any more. If I lose weight in the process then "Whoo-hoo" for me! So the diet basically consists of the following: fish and seafood, vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains, and soy products. What I have to eliminate from my diet are (also) as follows: no red meat, no dairy, no sugar, no salt, limited corn products, limited animal proteins (like chicken and turkey, etc) and no alcohol.

Now, I have tried something similar to this diet when I was first diagnosed with RA, and saw no real improvements. But I am hoping since I am responding better to my new meds then hopefully I will be able to get my diet to "assist" in the effort that my meds are accomplishing. We shall see. So wish me luck! I have no idea how it will be or even if it is going to be something I can stick to, but I am hoping for the best. I really really REALLY want to not have to take pain meds anymore. If I can get off them, then I can sell them on the streets for some extra cash, rather than having to take them all the time!! LOL Jokes! I would never do that...I would only sell them to people I know, silly!! :)

More later...
